Alterations have always been a great go to when those pants are just a little bit too long or loose. But it seems alterations are only ever used for that little nip and tuck here and there. Have you ever thought about completely re-creating an old piece of clothing instead of just altering?

Imagine how much money you could save on new clothes if instead you worked with what you already had? I’ll give you an example. A friend of mine had bought a beautiful cashmere wool men’s coat but she found that neither her nor her partner wanted to wear it. So instead of throwing it away she gave it to me. I didn’t like the fit of it either, so I opened up the lining and completely re-fitted the entire coat to make it a women’s tailored fit. Now that it fits me like a glove I know I am going to get a lot of wear out of it.

If you would like to see more examples feel free to check out my blog post here where I re-vamped old clothes from my wardrobe that never saw the light of day.

So instead of going out and buying a whole new wardrobe and old your old clothes ending up in landfill, why not find a way to bring the old back to life whilst also creating something that fits you perfectly and will truly be a one of a kind design. The possibilities are endless.
